ATCO Electric Participation in AESO Open Houses

The Choice is Yours

In Alberta, you can now buy electricity from competing retailers the same way you buy other goods and services. Or you can buy regulated-rate electricity from your regulated service provider.

No matter how you choose to buy your electricity, you can always count on ATCO Electric to deliver it in a safe and reliable manner, just as we have for nearly 80 years.

We continue to:

  • Own, operate, and maintain the local distribution system – the wires and facilities – that ensure electricity is there whenever you need it.

  • Provide 24-hour emergency response. When Mother Nature or human error causes service interruptions, we will work quickly and safely to get the lights back on again.

  • Operate 37 local offices to keep response times to a minimum.

  • Routinely clear trees and debris from power line rights-of-way.

  • Read your electricity meter and provide consumption information to your energy provider.

  • Offer safety, energy efficiency and household tips and resources.

ATCO Electric bills your retailer or regulated service provider for these distribution services, and your energy provider passes these costs on to you. Our costs and the way we recover them from your energy provider are approved by the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board in an open, public process.

For more information

  •  About ATCO Electric’s distribution costs, see facts, questions and answers about electricity distribution.

  •  About your account or specific charges, contact your energy retailer or regulated service provider.

You do not have to choose the regulated option, you are free to choose other retailers. A listing of licensed electricity retailers in Alberta is available at www.ucahelps.gov.ab.ca or by calling 310-4-UCA (310-4822). Outside Alberta, dial (780) 644-5130.
