The following information and links are designed to assist with the interconnection of large industrial or oilfield load customers to ATCO Electric's distribution system. The ATCO Electric Distribution system consists of facilities operating at 25 kV and lower voltage.

ATCO Electric's core business is owning, operating and maintaining the system of power lines and equipment that delivers electric energy to customers in our service area. The company also plays a key role in the development of Alberta’ s industrial sector – our oilfield, industrial and commercial customers use over 80% of the total energy we deliver. Our Industrial Services staff is focused on meeting the particular needs of this customer group. The basic steps required for interconnection are:

  1. Determine whether your project is located within ATCO Electric's Service Area.

  2. Review the technical requirements as detailed in the Distribution System Standard for the Installation of New Load, ATCO Electric's Customer Guide to New Extensions- Updated, Customer Metering and Service Manual and ATCO Electric's Terms and Conditions.

  3. Complete the online or PDF version of the Industrial/Oilfield Application Form and mail or fax to ATCO Electric's Industrial Services Group.

  4. A Industrial Services or customer service representative will contact you after receiving the request to confirm the details of your application and project. Site plans are required to obtain a firm estimate to interconnect to ATCO Electric's distribution system. ATCO Electric will commence with the engineering design to facilitate the interconnection of the load to the distribution system.

  5. Carefully review the commercial terms offered in ATCO Electric's proposal. If the proposal terms are acceptable and agreed upon by the customer in writing, ATCO Electric will commence with the preparation of an Electric Service Agreement and an invoice for the capital contribution (as required).

  6. Upon successful execution of the Electric Service Agreement and payment of the capital contribution, ATCO will construct the outlined distribution facilities and interconnect the customer load.

ATCO Electric will not connect the facility, or permit the facility to be connected to the distribution system, until the customer has obtained a valid Electrical Permit and the customer has enrolled the site with a licensed energy retailer.
