I saw it as a great opportunity to use the office skills I obtained in past work experiences and work for a reputable company like ATCO. They’re very supportive of the communities they serve.

I’m learning a lot both professionally and personally. It’s admirable to see how committed employees are to their work and the company; and how well they represent themselves and the company in a very professional manner.

Why did you think ATCO Electric’s Aboriginal Summer Student Program would be a good fit for you?
I worked for ATCO previously, so I knew that it would be a good work environment. Also, people are really friendly here.

How does the Aboriginal Summer Student Program support your career goals?

This program has provided me with a lot of valuable work experience. Even though it’s not directly related to my career studies, it still allowed me to learn valuable skills like interacting with people, taking on different tasks and completing those tasks accurately and on time.

What do you value about ATCO Electric as an employer?
Safety. I know ATCO is all about safety, and they make sure their employees work in a safe environment. They’re supportive in what you want to do. They’ll offer you training, and give you the opportunities to grow in the company.

It supports me in a lot of ways because what I’m doing here is related to what I want to get into. This program is helping me take steps to achieve my career goals.

It’s a great work environment. I’m lucky because this is a great company to work for. I get to work with friendly people who make me laugh which makes coming to work enjoyable.

I’m not really sure what I want to go into right now. But working here has taught me a lot of different things and I can see the areas where I can apply my degree.

What made you come back to ATCO Electric and participate in the Aboriginal Summer Student Program?
I just love the working atmosphere. Everybody makes you feel so welcome and part of the team. It’s just a wonderful experience.

How does the program support your career goals?
I’m learning a lot here and I will take that with me wherever I go. Once I become a teacher, I can teach students about safety and the dangers of electricity.

Describe the program in 25 words or less.
It’s an extraordinary working opportunity because you learn so much. I really value the working relationships between the company and the customers. I respect that.

Yes.
