Alberta's Electrical Needs Are Growing - Major Transmission Projects Approved

    Learn more:

    • Eastern Alberta DC Transmission Line
    • Hanna Region Transmission Development

The Alberta Electric System Operator identified the need to reinforce Alberta's electricity system to meet growing demands for electricity in Alberta. To help meet that need, ATCO Electric was directed to submit facilities applications for the Hanna Regional Transmission Development (HRTD) project and the Eastern Alberta Transmission Line (EATL). The Alberta Utilities Commission issued a permit to construct, and a license to operate these two major transmission projects. Construction on HRTD is underway and construction on EATL is scheduled to begin by the end of 2012.
